Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar, and the flash across it has a name: labradorescence. Light enters the stone, strikes an internal twinning surface and reflects back, which is why the colour appears at one angle and disappears at another. Turn a piece in your hand and you will watch it switch on and off. Every stone here was cut and set by hand in my workshop in Tbilisi, in sterling silver (925).

Labradorite is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and breaks in two directions with perfect cleavage, so it does not forgive a knock against a hard edge. Warm soapy water and a soft cloth, no ultrasonic or steam cleaner, and store it apart from harder stones. More on the stone in my article on labradorite.
