Pyrite is iron sulfide, and its brass-yellow metallic shine is what earned it the name fool's gold. It is not gold and never was: gold bends under pressure, pyrite is brittle and breaks. Every stone here was cut and set by hand in my workshop in Tbilisi, in sterling silver (925).

Pyrite is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, and it comes with one honest caveat. Pyrite oxidises when exposed to air and moisture, so it tarnishes more readily than most stones. Keep it dry, take it off before washing or swimming, and store it in a closed pouch rather than in open air. More on the stone in my article on pyrite.
