Description

These large pyrite earrings carry a disc of silver branches with a gold pyrite center.

Pyrite at the center
Pyrite is an iron sulfide and it crystallizes in cubes. The cluster at the middle is made of those small cubes, and each face catches light on its own. The color is a brass yellow, and it is the only warm point in all that dark silver.

The disc is built from branches
Thin silver branches spread out from the center in every direction and end in small rounded tips. They split again on the way out, so the circle is never symmetrical.

Open all the way through
The openwork runs right through the disc. It is not a solid plate, which is why these read as large without reading as heavy blocks of metal.

Built in our Tbilisi studio
Every branch is cut, bent and soldered one at a time. The silver is oxidized dark, so the gold at the center reads brighter against it.

Leverback, not a hook
The hinged lever closes behind the ear, so the disc cannot slide off during the day.

One of one
Every stone is chosen and set one at a time. The piece that reaches you will be close to the photograph and never a copy of it.
