Small Lapis Lazuli Pendant - Round Raw Stone

This small lapis lazuli pendant hangs one round, raw stone in a rim of dark silver beads.

Lapis does not let light through
Lapis lazuli runs from semi-translucent to opaque, so its color does not come from depth. It sits on the surface and reads as one solid note of blue. On a small stone that works in your favor: the circle is small, but the color does not thin out.

Round, and left raw
The outline of the stone is a circle, but its face is not polished. A crust of small crystals sits across it, so instead of returning the light in one mirrored patch it catches it in many separate points. The exactness of the circle and the disorder of the surface run against each other, and that is what this piece is built on.

A rim of beads
Small silver beads run the whole way round the stone without a break and hold it from the edge. The silver is oxidized dark, so the blue reads deeper against it. We shape the stone and build the silver around it in our Tbilisi studio.

A narrow, grooved bail
Above the stone the bail is narrow and grooved down its length, with beads along its edges. The cord passes straight through it.

Every stone is chosen and set one at a time. The piece that reaches you will be close to the photograph and never a copy of it.
