Description

Black obsidian necklace with a raw stone, set in blackened 925 sterling silver.

Obsidian is volcanic glass. It forms when lava cools too fast to crystallize.

We shape this stone and stop before polishing. Its surface stays covered in fine splintered facets. Those facets throw back violet, green and copper as the light moves. Straight on, it reads close to black.

Why raw obsidian keeps its color
Polished obsidian is flat black. The color here comes from the fracture itself. Polish it and the color is gone.

Held, not glued
Small silver prongs run around the edge and hold the stone. Nothing is bonded to the back, and the edges stay free.

Made by hand
We cut and set every piece by hand in our Tbilisi studio. The silver is oxidized dark so nothing competes with the stone.

One of one
Every stone is chosen and set one at a time. The piece that reaches you will be close to the photograph and never a copy of it.
