Blue Aquamarine Earrings - Stones Under Silver Leaves

These aquamarine earrings set two pale blue stones in crowns of silver beads, under a sprig of two silver leaves.

Pale blue is still aquamarine
Aquamarine is a variety of beryl, the same mineral family as emerald, and its color runs from greenish blue to blue. A light stone in that range is aquamarine just as much as a deep one. These two are pale, with a white cloud sitting inside the blue and a darker blue gathering along one edge.

A crown of silver beads
Small silver beads stand up all the way around each stone and hold it from the edge. The crown repeats the same bead without a break, so the outline stays steady and what changes is the blue inside it. We shape both stones and build the silver around them in our Tbilisi studio.

A sprig of two leaves
Above each stone sits a silver sprig with two leaves. It is the only part of the setting that does not repeat itself around the stone: the rest is a circle, and the sprig is what breaks it.

A closed back
Behind each stone the silver is a closed plate, smooth on the side that rests against the skin.

Leverback, and close to the lobe
The hinged lever closes behind the ear, so nothing works loose during the day. The stone sits close to the lobe rather than hanging below it, near enough to read as a stud from across a room.

Every stone is chosen and set one at a time. The pair that reaches you will be close to the photograph and never a copy of it.
