Raw Aquamarine Necklace - Sea Green Stone on a Cord

This raw aquamarine necklace hangs one sea green stone in a rim of silver beads, on a flat black cord.

Greenish blue is the aquamarine range
Aquamarine runs from greenish blue to blue, so a stone that leans green is aquamarine just as much as a clear blue one. This one sits at that end: a pale sea green, with deeper teal gathering in bands and one side that lightens almost to white.

A face we left alone
The face of the stone is not polished. Long lines run down its length, so the light travels along them rather than sitting on one flat surface. The stone is thick, and the setting has depth because of it.

A rim of beads, and forked claws
Silver beads run the whole way round the stone. Claws rise from that rim, each one split in two and finished with a beaded tip, and they fold over the face to hold the stone. We shape the stone and build the silver around it in our Tbilisi studio.

A closed back and an open bail
Behind the stone the silver is a closed plate, ringed by the same bead border. Above it the bail does the opposite: it is an open loop built from silver strands and beads, and the cord passes straight through it.

Every stone is chosen and set one at a time. The piece that reaches you will be close to the photograph and never a copy of it.
