Aquamarine Necklace - Pale Oval in a Branch Circle

This aquamarine necklace sets a pale oval stone at the center of a wide circle of silver branches.

An aquamarine that lights from inside
Aquamarine grows in pegmatite, and as the crystal forms, fluids are trapped inside it and leave a record of that formation in the stone. This one is not clear glass: pale lines and veils run through the inside of the oval, and they are what catch the light, so it comes out of the stone rather than off its surface.

A circle of branches
Silver branches spread outward from the stone. Each one divides as it goes and ends in a small rounded bud, and together they close into a full circle. The circle is not a solid disc: every branch stands on its own with space between them, so the skin shows through from behind.

A dark center and bright tips
Around the stone the silver is oxidized dark, while the tips of the branches are left bright. The circle lightens as it moves outward, which keeps sending the eye back to the middle. We shape the stone and build the silver around it in our Tbilisi studio.

A collar, and a narrow bail
The oval sits in a narrow collar edged with small silver beads, and the branches begin at the edge of that collar. Above it, a narrow bail carries the cord.
